Heide-Motorsport will start their debut season in the DTM Trophy this weekend. At Monza, a total of three Audi R8 LMS GT cars of the team from Witten will be on the grid.

As one of three women in the championship, Sophie Hofmann will pilot her Audi R8 LMS GT, marking her first full GT season. Her teammate Lucas Mauron already won three races in the series last year and has just one goal in mind this year: to finish at the top of the podium as often as possible.

New to the team for the first race is GT specialist Jörg Viebahn. The entrepreneur from Engelskirchen has been driving GT4 cars since 2012 and has a wealth of experience here, which he rounded off with the GT4 European Series championship in 2016. This weekend he will take the wheel of the Audi R8 LMS GT for the first time in the DTM Trophy, the production-based GT championship within the DTM.

“I’m very happy to be able to start so spontaneously with Heide-Motorsport in the DTM Trophy. I’ll gather a lot of impressions of the car in free practice today so that I can fully attack on Saturday and Sunday. My teammates are young, so I’m sure I can give them a few tips along the way.”, says Jörg Viebahn.

The line-up of the three cars also makes team boss Michael Heide happy. “We are now looking forward to the season opener even more. The combination between fresh talent and experienced driver is exciting and we can’t wait to finally step on the gas on the track.”

The DTM Trophy starts as part of the DTM. The first race will be held in Monza from June 18-20. On Saturdays and Sundays, one qualifying session and one race each are on the schedule. The races will be broadcast live on free-TV on SPORT1 and streamed on DTM Grid (grid.dtm.com). On DTM’s own platform, the practice sessions and qualifying sessions are also available to fans in front of the screens.
